Just had a problem with another program and came across a freeware
utility 
that may help you track down what is happening with your app.

Process Explorer for SysInternals 
http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/procexp.shtml

Tells you everything you want to know about what resources etc a process
is 
using.
