You're correct, John. OEM versions are normally tweaked for the particular vendor's system. They might work on another system, but the EULA specifically prohibits that, since OEM versions are only licensed for sale with a new computer. Interestingly enough, I have an OEM version of Office 2000 that came from Microsoft as a replacement for a bad retail set. You are also allowed to install on both a desktop and a portable system as long as it is the same person using the software on both systems.
