Sander,

    Return value for the function can be set as Variant. 

    For a practical demonstration, you might like to have a look at my sample database BackUpManager at Rogers Access Library. Function   F_FileSelect()  in module  Bk_FileDlg_2K  of the 2K version of this sample should be relevant.
