Not much consolation Mark but see

Sounds like MDB's knackered and you'll need specialist help. Although more
optimistic view at http://www.mvps.org/access/bugs/bugs0006.htm , but that
does relate to A95. You may want to look at other refs that Google found on
a search for "isn't an index in this table".
