Susan: I'm just about to have this problem. Combo box with a PK of AssetID in the invisible column(0) and the asset bar code in column(1) - visible. List is limited to assets of a certain type but if the user enter a bar code of a different type then I have to process it anyway. Bound column is AssetID. I'll be following this thread and I'll let you know if I find a way around it.
