Rich, I'm confused with your response. It sounds like you've never done this, but I can't tell whether or not you think it is even possible. I'll explain my situation a little more. As it stands now, my current practice is to run a weekly Cognos report from the finance data warehouse and save that data as an Excel spreadsheet. I then import that data into Access. So...why is there an ODBC driver for Cognos? I'm just floating this idea, but it seems to me that if someone went to the trouble of writing an ODBC driver for Cognos, then I should be able to connect directly to the catalog from Access and save myself two steps. Does that sound feasible? If so how? As far as I know that isn't possible other then through Cognos itself. There might be a way to use the Data Cube that gets generated for each report after it is refreshed although I wouldn't have any idea how to do that. A Cognos catalog is basically where you say what fields you want from what table, what calculations you want, and the place where you apply security. Cognos is a reporting tool, therefore the login ID that is used should, (I say SHOULD loosely), be read only anyway so if you are trying to do data changes then you'd be in trouble. If you are trying to analyze the data then why not just use Cognos, after all it is a great too for analyzing data, its what it was built for. If you needed the data then why not go against the same table(s)/warehouse that the Catalog is getting its information from. Rich -----Original Message----- From: Mitsules, Mark S.
