In my experience, there is no down side to doing this. Nor to a query that looks up some related fields in the same model. I have a form (subform of an unbound form actually) that will be used strictly for Data Entry and I was thinking of binding it to the table directly instead of through a query. The only downside that I can think of is that I won't be able to sort the recordsource, but since its DE only, that doesn't matter. Is there anyreason I shouldn't do it like this?
