It works, but it won't necessarily do what you think it will do.
CD will not change your current drive.

Each drive maintains its own "current directory".  
If you are currently in D:\MyDir, the command  "CD C:\" will  change the 
"current directory of Drive C:" to the root but will not put you there. You 
will still be in D:\MyDir after the command.
