I wrote (and am in the process of re-writing) a Gym membership application that Plays the cashreg.wav sound each time a "CASUAL" member signs in and thus 'owes' the GYM a usage fee - they love it. I then have a form for selecting client projects which has a tab for entering hours worked (start date / time, stop date / time, work category, description of work), and expenses. I can "no charge" work if I need to, and "no charge" work shows up in my reports so that the client sees them. I also have an expense table, child to ClientProject, although I must admit I have relatively few expenses since I don't travel a lot. I tend to keep details of work down to either a day or a several hour period. It is nice though since I do a lot of work at home for many different clients. If a client calls (or I call a client) I can close the current work period I am recording, select that client, build a "phone call" work record and record my phone calls, which can be a lot of time. I tend to keep my billing app open on my laptop the whole time I work. I then just switch to it and record a summary of what I did for the last few hours, as I go through the day. By the end of the day I have a summary of hours worked, for what client, with start / stop times. I have a report generation form which allows me to select a time period (last month, last quarter, last year, current month etc) and generate reports for progress and invoice. The reports can be automatically emailed to the client and stored (hard copy) as a snapshot in a directory for each client. John W.
