Bryan, John, That was it! Installing the MOBO drivers from the original disk that came with the laptop caused a page fault (never a good sign) but on reboot it said that new hardware had been detected, including.... The VGA adapter. I allowed it to install everything, but it stopped on some "SomeOtherThing.Sys required" message. That wasn't on the CD but I searched for it on the C: drive and there it was in the System32/Drivers directory. Fed in that path (twice) and voila (after another reboot), I have my native resolution back. Good job guys (and why I know that, if all else fails, ASK THE LIST!) John W. As I mentioned earlier, I had this happen to me within the last few weeks and I couldn't recall how I recovered from it but I do believe this is it. The key is that you have to reinstall the drivers for the _motherboard_ and reboot. Then the "video adapter" will be recognized and the "VgaSave service" will reliquish control. I would add that you should just use the original drivers and when all is well you can tinker with updating them (gives you something to "roll back" to in case of problems.) They worked in the first place so there is no reason to replace them unless you'd had problems with them or they offer some benefit to your situation. -----Original Message----- From: accessd-bounces at databaseadvisors.com [mailto:accessd-bounces at databaseadvisors.com] On Behalf Of Bryan Carbonnell Sent: Wednesday, April 12, 2006 8:37 AM To: Access Developers discussion and problem solving Subject: Re: [AccessD] No display adapter On 4/11/06, John Colby <jwcolby at colbyconsulting.com> wrote: > It is a laptop, and I have the install disk, although it is for > WindowsXP Home and I am using WindowsXP Pro. John, have a look at: http://www.experts-exchange.com/Operating_Systems/WinXP/Q_20815819.html and http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;292460 The Experts exchange link talks about a similar problem to yours. The solution was to download the latest MoBo drivers and then trying to reinstall video driver. The MSKB link talks about how to troubleshoot Video Adapter Drivers in Safe mode. -- Bryan Carbonnell - carbonnb at gmail.com Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting "What a great ride!" -- AccessD mailing list AccessD at databaseadvisors.com http://databaseadvisors.com/mailman/listinfo/accessd Website: http://www.databaseadvisors.com -- AccessD mailing list AccessD at databaseadvisors.com http://databaseadvisors.com/mailman/listinfo/accessd Website: http://www.databaseadvisors.com
