[AccessD] Setting field name in recordset

FWIW, I'm passing the string value to a function. The Tooltip shows 

Language = "English"

Debug.Print prints English

It's there -- but rstControls doesn't like it. The mismatch type is the hint
I guess -- that's why I asked if maybe the variable, language, needs to be
an object instead of a string.
