Mark: I experimented with this after I posted the message, before receiving any answers, and ended up importing and then running a delete query (with null for the blank lines, and also deleting some other unwanted lines - e.g., totals - that I didn't want to import). I had thought Access would mess up the import, since a blank line has no fields (duh), but I created an import spec and had Access use that, and it did just fine. I'd still like to learn how to do it the other way, though, just for my own knowledge's sake. Thomas F. I just run a delete query AFTER the import...to remove the unwanted rows. This is an e-mail from General Dynamics Land Systems.
