For the moment, given his market, Access FE/BE will be perfectly adequate - I figure 3-20 users, small law offices. If the time comes that he's getting into bigger law firms and bigger numbers of users, from what I've read on the list here he can upgrade the BE to SQL and keep the Access FE. The FE is huge so rewriting it in another platform would be a major project. Why not use a SQL based product? I supported IP Master for years, and it has a boatload of features that it would take too much time and money to recreate and maintain than would ever be worth a custom developer's time. (ie when does a Lithuanian patent need to be renewed ) There are other good products as well. -----Original Message----- From: Rocky Smolin at Beach Access Software <rockysmolin at bchacc.com> Sent: Friday, August 08, 2008 7:26 AM To: 'Access Developers discussion and problem solving' <accessd at databaseadvisors.com> Subject: Re: [AccessD] Centura? Hi Rocky By Centura he probably means Unify/Gupta (formerly Centura) Team Developer found here: http://www.unify.com/Products/TeamDeveloper/default.aspx I have no experience with this. However, maintenance of such application must be difficult due to the - I guess - limited count of qualified developers for this. /gustav PS: What is clocketing (crocheting?) business about? >>> rockysmolin at bchacc.com 08-08-2008 00:57 >>> Dear List: Got an inquiry from a client for whom I'm developing a product. He writes: A big player in the docketing business sells a program that uses Centura for its front end, and SQL Server for its back end. They say Access is not robust enough for them, Centura is. From what I can tell on the Internet, Centura is free shareware and I find it hard to believe it would be better than Access. Do you know anything about it? I think the guy is blowing smoke, but I don't really know. Have you ever heard of it? Does anyone know anything of this "Centura"? -- AccessD mailing list AccessD at databaseadvisors.com http://databaseadvisors.com/mailman/listinfo/accessd Website: http://www.databaseadvisors.com -- AccessD mailing list AccessD at databaseadvisors.com http://databaseadvisors.com/mailman/listinfo/accessd Website: http://www.databaseadvisors.com [The entire original message is not included] -- AccessD mailing list AccessD at databaseadvisors.com http://databaseadvisors.com/mailman/listinfo/accessd Website: http://www.databaseadvisors.com
