Pursuant to my previous post on Amerika... Don't regard it as anti-USA -- not at all -- we have similar villains right here in my own back yard. The RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police, our equivalent to the FBI, sort of) auditor today announced that the RCMP has been keeping secret files on more than 45,000 Canadians whose content revealed nothing subversive or even vaguely criminal. One such instance: a man dropped his daughter off at her school, stopping his car in front of the house next to the school, which reportedly was home to a drug dealer. Fourteen years later this data was still on file, even though the man had subsequently been deemed a mere father dropping his daughter off at school. Incidentally, it turns out that the man inhabiting said house was never convicted. A file, once opened, is apparently never closed. Well, at last, that particular file is closed, thanks to the Auditor, and many thousands of others as well. But it does make one wonder, From how many jobs was this man excluded the prospective employers did a background check? A.
