LOL! Yes, MS distributes their OSes on R/W CDs! ;o) OEM XP will not activate if it has been registered and you will occasionally have to call in if the hardware profile has changed too much but even then it's a 5 minute call. The "CD" has nothing to do with it, it's the activation registry database on the web. If you retail XP you legally have the right to have it installed on one PC at a time. John B. -----Original Message----- From: accessd-bounces at databaseadvisors.com [mailto:accessd-bounces at databaseadvisors.com] On Behalf Of Karen Rosenstiel OK, here's the latest. I called Dell tech support and explained the situation. I told him that I had 2 old XP Pro cd's. He immediately got all upset and told me I couldn't use them. I explained that the machines they came on were long gone. Then he told me that there was something on the cd that would prevent it from loading if it had already been used and registered on another machine. I told him point blank I didn't believe him. Especially since I've used these cd's on several machines for years as I upgraded. Just had to call MS and they gave me the code. The only good thing that came out of the conversation is that he did tell me that my machine would take XP -- I just had to buy another cd. This is really and truly annoying me.
