[AccessD] Wrong field type when linking to Excel

I'm linking to an Excel sheet and getting an incorrect field type
(numeric instead of text).

 

I get the same problem when importing the sheet into a table with the
field specified as text.

 

I have not had this issue with Excel sheets with similar data, so I'm
tempted to look for something wrong with the sheet (the field is set to
Text).

 

Saving as CSV and importing that way causes other issues.

 

Any ideas or solutions?
