I do have Office SP3 and all the updates for Windows, Office, and everything else. Yes, when different versions of Access 2003 and 2007 start Windows Installer still runs. My problem was Windows Installer would start every time Access 2003 would start... even if it was already open and I wanted to start another database. So, lucky you, your case must be different from most others including mine. /gustav >>> JHewson at nciinc.com 19-11-2008 20:46 >>> That's the only thing that was changed and now I don't get the Windows Installer any more. That key existed and exists in my Registry but it doesn't change, and the installer for each of A2003 and A2007 insists to run when the other version has been launched. /gustav >>> JHewson at nciinc.com 19-11-2008 16:32 >>> My favorite IT guru fixed it for me. He modified the registry. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Jet\4.0\Engines\Excel He added Excel with Name Win32 Type REG_SZ Data c:\program files\Microsoft Office\office11\msaexp30.dll That fixed the problem for me. My previous machine had A97 through A2003 installed with A2007 runtime for testing. Everything worked fine... well each time either A2003 or A2007 started the first time the Windows installer would go through its thing. On the new machine, in the beginning the IT folks couldn't get the different version to play nice together. After many uninstalls and reinstalls etc. I finally have A97, A2000, A2003 and the A2007 runtime. My issue is that EVERY TIME A2003 starts the Windows Installer begins and if I hit cancel it cancels everything. It starts even if I have another instance of it open and it doesn't matter how many times I have opened it up in the past it still starts. The IT folks say the next step in to uninstall everything on the machine and reinstall all the software. Does anyone know how to stop this from happening?
