For the definitive novel on the American fetish for lawsuits, see William Gaddis's "A Frolic of His Own", in which (one of several subplots) a character successfully sues himself, along with the manufacturer of the car in question. There are several other equally hilarious subplots, all involving lawsuits -- and the awful thing is that all of it is plausible. But a lawsuit against oneself is just too funny. Arthur
