http://www.carlsberggroup.com/brands/Pages/Carlsberg47.aspx That is a strong beer! 7%. I thought Stella Artois was strong at 6%. Too strong for moi. Try here: http://www.stellaartois.com/site#/en_UK/ If you are brave enough to ENTER and you SURVIVE the challenges, a STAR will be born in your name! Of course, it is Belgium and not Danish but it does bring home the bacon (sorry, can't resist that! But you do export a lot to UK). Our contact was the public relations people, and one of their responsibilities was the visitors' tours. They tried to keep a subtle balance between the original purpose of the tours, education, and what it had evolved to because of the free beer tasting, entertainment. Most visitors were nice, of course, and like you enjoyed the beer and the tour, but at times the Carlsberg people were sick and tired of those who just rushed through the buildings to get some free beers of whatever type. The Elephant Beer is still the star - strong and very good - and not that expensive but my favourite Carlsberg is the "47": http://www.carlsberggroup.com/brands/Pages/Carlsberg47.aspx a marvelous beer only brewed at Christmas time. I remember when it was reintroduced in the early eighties - a lot of things were going on, the reintroduction of this niche beer as one thing, another was a complete renovation of the very old original and beautiful brewery which was brought back to its original state while, at the same time, being brought up to a full small-scale production facility which is still functional. Today such breweries of this size are called micro breweries. Those were the days. My two partners and I - as the faithful supplier we was - each received two crates of this great beer! You better call me next time you are here. /gustav >>> max.wanadoo at gmail.com 07-03-2009 22:53 >>> Gustav, Yes, that is very interesting. I can remember doing at "tour" of Carlsberg brewery in Denmark around 1980'ish. We done the tour and ended up in a large Keller where "wenches" carrying FREE BEER came to serve us, beer after beer. Each serving was preceding by a brief lecture of the history of the beer abut to be presented and where it stood in the Carlsberg beer hierarchy. Each serving was also heading towards the ultimate beer, which if I recall correctly was Elephant Beer. It was very expensive and very good. We only got one Elephant beer each, but to be honest by then we probably wouldn't have appreciated it any more at that stage - hic! A good tour and a nice Country. The Danes of course, used to "raid" the British Isles and no doubt we (probably) share the same gene string - now there's a thought! It's your round next Bro. Max Ps. This housed a local brewery, Wiibroe, which for years ago was bought by another "local" brand you may have heard of, Carlsberg. Sad thing was, that the wise marketing guys figured out that the famous "Wiibroe Imperial Stout": http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/wiibroe-porter-imperial-stout/7789/ was to be ceased in favour of Carlsberg's own imperial stout: http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/carlsberg-carls-porter-40gammel-carlsberg-porte r-imperial-stout/6974/12252/ Not a bad beer but still ... how popular do you think Carlsberg was at that time? Two years ago, however, the production of the Wiibroe Imperial Stout was reestablished in the old buildings of Wiibroe at the highest standards. This meant that the latest to brews were abandoned for some reason and now the shelves at the stores are ripped. I still keep _one_ bottle from the autumn just in case, while local beer enthusiasts are walking in circles. Should they come too close, I have arranged for a dark place to hide the bottle! /gustav >>> max.wanadoo at gmail.com 07-03-2009 20:46 >>> Gustav, If you walk down the road and see a guy with a smile on his face coming towards you - that will be me! I *try* my best to keep humour as an essential part of my Super-Ego, viz: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ego#Ego The Super-ego works in contradiction to the id. The Super-ego strives to act in a socially appropriate manner, whereas the id just wants instant self-gratification. The Super-ego controls our sense of right and wrong and guilt. It helps us fit into society by getting us to act in socially acceptable ways. Pub life keeps me "In Society", otherwise I would be quite happy to sit in front of my laptop for hours. I am by nature a gregarious person and a bit of an extravert and enjoy other people's personalities. I *love* happy people. I strive to retain the child in me and refuse to grow old. I do not want to grow old gracefully - my body may age, but I will hang on to fun and love and humour for as long as I can. Thinking of which, time I went to the pub! There's a pint sitting somewhere with my name on it. Ha! Max Ps. I just want code that is 100% accurate 100% of the time. Is that asking toooo much??? <g> -- AccessD mailing list AccessD at databaseadvisors.com http://databaseadvisors.com/mailman/listinfo/accessd Website: http://www.databaseadvisors.com
