So if I were to ask you what the value of field X is, and field X has not been set, would you not respond 'Null'? That makes Null a value. Null is the absence of a value, indeterminate, not a selection. The absence of a value means nothing has been selected, not that the user has selected a nothing, which is impossible. The user can elect to remove an existing value, but that doesn't make the resultant null a value! You can't compare anything to Null and the only test you can make is Is Null.
