[AccessD] Sql password

Hi
I have been downloading some stuff from microsoft for web development.
Dotnetnuke, joomla, acquia, etc.
 
It installed SQL 2008 and Visual Studio 2008 but I dont know what the admin
username or password is.
 
I have tried root and sa but no good.
 
Any idea of how I even get them open so that I can try to set them up.
Without them I cannot install the other stuff.
 
Sorry to be vague but I am out of my depth a bit here...
