Hi Doug:

Between the end of the island and the inside passage there are usually a
steady supply of the big ones. I have only gone up on the ferry from Port
Hardy to Prince Rupert and in both occasions the rollers made the ferry look
small... I would be quite apprehensive about traversing the distance in
something smaller than a row boat. ;-)

I have some surfing experience in a full size kayak, but the trick is to
figure out where there aren't any big rollers...
