I pretty much always did.  Maybe that's because I started programming in dBase, where the editor would suddenly decide it was full up and dump all your code.  I got very careful about that.

Hmm, now you mention it Dan and Darren,

This has happened to me in A2003 but not for a very long time because I
always compile/save after each change - it has become 2nd nature.
