Sorry, Stuart, I beg to differ here.  We really don't know, in the case of 
Martin's database, without some more details of the data structure.  But 
there are many scenarios other that what you described where a query will be 
undateable.  I frequently (and I assume you do too) have editable forms 
based on multi-table queries.

It would be updateable only if there is a one to one relationship between 
tables 2 and 3 and
you include all PKs fields from both tables in the query.
