HI Jim and All -- I like the way email systems work too. As for the DatabaseAdvisors discussions lists/forums/blogs/articles/... new engine - here DotNetNuke (http://www.dotnetnuke.com) could be used IMO - it has many useful advanced CMS features free (from its community edition) out-of-the-box. It has mobile UI /skin automatic switching feature but is it available for free or not - that have to be checked. Being an ASP.NET-driven CMS engine and built using modular principle DNN looks like being ready to get its web sites shaped in tablet/Metro-style friendly skins... And as we all here seems to be getting more and more busy with our businesses having left less and less time with doing "free stuff" I'd propose to find a DNN skins designer to make the new DatabaseAdvisor site skin and pay for that work together whatever sum an Access-D member can afford - when that DNN skin is ready then DotNetNuke setup on a hosting site as e.g. PowerDNN is as well as moving old DatabaseAdvisors site stuff to the new one wouldn't be a very time consuming issue... DNN forums do have a feature to e-mail new posts as well as replies of the threads you've got interested/participated in etc. I cannot say I consider DNN a perfect solution but it looks like an "optimal solution" in DatabaseAdvisors group current context. Thank you. -- Shamil Fri, 13 Jul 2012 10:04:50 -0700 от "Jim Lawrence" <accessd at shaw.ca>: I agree. I like the way the email system works. I do not think there is any easy fix, like migrating to one social site or another. Each poses their own series of issues and their issues are not ones we can resolve; after all these sites are designed to make money. I am not sure I want to become a product for a large corporation. I have been running my own company for too many years to go working for someone else. The DatabaseAdvisors domain name is at the top of many Google searches as it have been available for so many years. But the web site, has not been updated or additional content added in years as keeping the site fresh can be a full time job, especially for a single person and the amount of work to rebuild the site is a little daunting to say the least. IMHO, there are three points that should to be addressed. 1. Design a fresh face to the DBA website; make it look like the new Win8, if you like...even add tablet features. The following link does not suggest a preference to "Ford" products but it does suggest a sample of what a new site could look like: http://www.ford.com/technology/sync/ 2. Add additional material to the site and keep the current material fresh. There have been many great collections of "How to" posts added in the past and even recently. Some of the best could be used as articles?... There are so many new technologies and articles that can be added. The site could be broken up similar to our list along with a few additions. 3. Build a easier interface so new users can join, without going through the IKEA assembly challenge. The downside is that it is going to take work and there is so much to clean up. Renovating a historical website, like a house of similar ilk will not be without challenges OTOH, IMO, if these issues are addressed and resolved, membership will not be a problem. Any other thoughts or ideas? Jim <<< skipped >>>
