Stuart, I also want to get into Android development of custom apps for myself / my clients (work), and my daughter. I am looking at buying one of the new Nexus 7 tablets. While it does not have the surface area of a larger tablet it is within my price range. I am also looking to develop educational applications for my daughter who is developmentally delayed / intellectually disabled. She loves the Kindle Fire but it is trapped in an Amazon skin. Yes I actually have rooted it but I like having an Amazon Skin on that, the kids play all kinds of games from the Amazon store. I think the Nexus would give me the latest android OS and tons of power for programming, plus a form factor that is kid friendly. John W.
