Creating a calculated field in a query will not make the query non-updatable. Only the calculated field itself will be non-updatable.

Thanks for this research. Of course, I needed to have the RecordSource 
updateable....
and I was worried that converting the table to a query with calculated field 
would make the query "non-updateable".
