LOL. Such narrow vision. The invoice number can exist side by side with the surrogate key. In fact many of us will tell you that if your clients are SEEING your autonumbers you are doing things wrong. Autonumbers are just the mechanics of the database. They are NEVER data. So yep, I would have an autonumber (hidden) and the Invoice number, generated however you like, but NEVER used as the PK. John W.
