Good Theory and likely a real issue as well... -----Original Message----- From: accessd-bounces at databaseadvisors.com [mailto:accessd-bounces at databaseadvisors.com] On Behalf Of Rocky Smolin Sent: Thursday, 2 October 2014 11:22 AM To: 'Off Topic'; 'Access Developers discussion and problem solving' Subject: [AccessD] FW: Why they called it Windows 10, and not Windows 9... another theory... _____ From: Noah Sutton-Smolin [mailto:noahsutsmo at gmail.com] Sent: Wednesday, October 01, 2014 6:17 PM To: Rocky Smolin Subject: Why they called it Windows 10, and not Windows 9... Since Windows 2000, people have used the condition: if(os.version.startswith("Windows 9") || os.version.startswith("Windows ME")) or some such equivalent to identify Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows ME. It's in thousands of lines of code, all over the place. Calling it "Windows 9" would break too many applications for Microsoft to bother. https://searchcode.com/?q=startswith%28%22windows%5C+9%22%29 ++Noah Sutton-Smolin Android Developer, EcoATM E: noahsutsmo at gmail.com H: 858-259-2592 C: 858-342-8926 PGP public key <https://hkps.pool.sks-keyservers.net/pks/lookup?op=get&search=0x07C0E1EFD44 10CD1> -- AccessD mailing list AccessD at databaseadvisors.com http://databaseadvisors.com/mailman/listinfo/accessd Website: http://www.databaseadvisors.com
