In general Access is a far better tool for more complex data reporting.
Try generating a report with several subgroup levels and/or embedded child reports and 
charts

Excel is a good tool for generating simple reports based on large row count dynamic 
crosstab data.. Other than that one case, Access reporting has it beaten hands down.

Excel was NOT designed for complex reporting, it was designed to perform calculations on 
tabulated numerical data for analysis and forecasting purposes.
