Kathryn,

I can only begin to appreciate the great feeling of loss that comes from
your lifelong surroundings disappearing or being upended. I'm no bible
basher, but I was once thrown into praying with people in that situation
and have never regretted having been granted the opportunity.
It was in 2011 when I was accepted as a volunteer for a week and flown into
a city recovering from disaster - the city where I had attended
university. I'm the sort of person who likes to fix stuff but my
church slapped a "Salvation Army" logo on me and sent me to (broken?)
people who needed to be listened to and have their feelings validated. In
that place I found anybody displaying a Godly symbol could offer to pray
for almost any afflicted stranger and gain immediate acceptance.
May God be with you and those you reach out to.

Paul Wolstenholme, New Zealand.
