Query Run time in different databases

I have a query that takes about 10 seconds to run in
one database. I copied the query into another database using the menu bar. The
query tries to run for hours in the database it was copied into. The original
database is larger if that matters. A compact and repair seemed to have no
effect. Any thoughts as to what is happening?
