[dba-SQLServer] SQL Performance

Jim,

Is it actual performance (ie retrieving records from SQL and displaying them via ASP or VB front end) or the display of the objects using Enterprise Manager?

Can you connect using an Access data project and if so do you get the same slow performance?

The reason I want to differentiate is that I've seen this behavior before. I can't quite put my finger on the cause but usually if you press F5 for refresh you will get the results much faster. It's as if the display was waiting for something to trigger it. If you go to My Computer and display the list of drives does it also take a while to display them? Pressing F5 for refresh will display them in an instant. Let me know if I've hit the nail on the head.

How much ram did you allocate to SQL Server? If you open EM, and right click on your registered server, you will have a tab for the memory configuration, is it set to fixed, or dynamic, and if dynamic what is the maximum range?
