Alias is like a nickname you give to remote sql server that tells your sql server client how to connect to remote sql server. You can manage aliases via the Client Network Utility: START --> PROGRAMS --> SQL SERVER --> CLIENT NETWORK UTILITY >From there, click on the Alias tab and select your network protocol and related settings.
