[dba-SQLServer] Iif in SQL Server

I have a situation where I need to have an iif construct that returns the
contents of one field if it exists, else return the other field. How do you
do something like that in SQL Server? Do I use a stored procedure? I need
this to run on potentially large datasets in something approaching real
time.

I did not time the backup but the file size for the backup is 31 gb for a
backup of 260 gb which is a pretty hefty savings.

I did download the evaluation ad am testing it now. No restrictions are
mentioned anywhere either on their site nor in the software as it runs. I
am interested for the simple reason that the nVLDB I am dealing with is
already way to big to backup in the normal manner and takes way to long as
well. The web site says that huge space savings are available because they
use compression and that the software also performs backups much faster, 2
to 3 times faster (or more).

My database is already 260 gbytes and will grow as I add indexes to the
table. I definitely need this kind of speed / size help if I am going to
get the database backup happening automatically. I am currently manually
zipping the files but that is not a good long term solution.

Hi John:

Here is their web site: http://www.imceda.com/litespeed.asp?page=1. There is
no price on their web site but I believe the cost is about $600.00. (Very
pricey IMHO) You can download an evaluation copy but I am not sure whether
it has been crippled or not.
