You can do this through a DTS package using a Transfer data task.

Is it possible to write a store procedure in SQL Server 2000 that will
import records from an Excel template directly into a table in SQL
Server, if so could someone please give me some guidance on the best way
to achieve this.  Could you please also let me know if it's not possible
as I need to start building the import routine at some point today..

Thanks in advance for any help and/or code samples to guide me in the
right direction.
