Are you doing an upgrade or a side by side install of SQL 2000 and 2005? side by side is supposed to require named instances or installs what ever that is? Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Upgrade Advisor http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=6107C27A-662C-4319-AFE7-B52D1568C30A&displaylang=en Do you have most recent version Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 installed The most stable version of SQL 2005 might be the Developer Edition rather than Standard or Enterprise.
