Oracle has made some steps into O-O with it latest release of 10g (http://www.adp-gmbh.ch/ora/plsql/oo/example_1.html). As well as coding data structures that can be easily created attaching the lineage (group of tables) to a field in the next table up. The process is not as easy to navigate if the data is needed in another groups but it is a good step. At this moment the whole design is probably just a front end simulation and the back-end is still totally relational but it is a start. With MS buying out a spacial data company can adoption of O-O within it SQL database be far behind... like Access and purchase of Foxpro and the implementation of its Rushmore technologies. Whether it will be a big jump or a slow migration over 10 years is the question. Slow migration is my prediction but I believe that is the trend. MS SQL will have to follow or they can lead. Of all the computer disciplines DBAs are the most conservative group and they tend to be 5 to 10 years behind the wave. Jim
