there are really two parts to it. WSS is the collaboration environment. MOSS is the portal environment that sits on top of it all. WSS is free, MOSS is BIG BUCKS. SQL Server 2005. You can install with express if you need to. OK for testing and small deployments. We are using dedicated SQL 2005 servers for this one.
