Hi John Yes, but as I recall, you can install the SSMS only (without the SQL engine) from both 2005, 2008, and 2008 R2 as well as the upcoming version (not tested). The issue here is, that some of the versions of SSMS cannot coexist while the never versions not always are backward compatible. I think it was you mentioning that a while ago.
