Will do.

And yes, I downloaded Mark Russinovich's RootKit Revealer last night. Rather
worryingly, I came across several things on my 4 month old Win XP pc that's
never had a music cd put in the drive, and none on my work pc which has had
500 different cd's put in it...

Thanks all

Jon

Jon,
I suggest that you boot into safe mode and remove the printer's) and any
software, drivers related to the printer.
Reboot
Check if the system runs normally by trying the excel problem you had.

If so you have pinpointed it. Check for issues with the print drivers.
Occasionally they have conflict issues and in the past HP has been very good
about working through them, although I have had one in years.

If that doesn't work - check for rootkits maybe she was playing a Sony CD
:o(
