Hi John I don't remember (a colleague handled it) but it sounds likely. If you were lucky, the drive malfunctioned slightly and you had time to backup. A few days or a week later it died. Or it just died. We checked out the recall but they only replaced the drive and did not cover the expense of installation or transferring the OS, files, etc. She decided not to do it and one month after the deadline her drive died.
