[dba-Tech] UPS recommendations?

If it's the physical damage that outages cause and not the outages
themselves, you just need a better surge protector. Unfortunately, most of
them rely on MOV's which are progressively destroyed as they do their job,
thus the unit that contains them "wears out".

I use a Brick Wall (www.brickwall.com) surge protector for my computer (and
a different model for an audio system). Previous to using one in
outage/spike-prone Atlanta my son had to reprogram his AV Preamp almost
every week. It's now been two years without needing to reprogram.

They're expensive ($175+ USD) but you only have to buy them once.

When I get a UPS for my computer I'll put it behind the Brick Wall.

Subject: [dba-Tech] UPS recommendations?

Got home last night to find that my ADSL modem/router was toast... This is
the third one I've had to replace due to power cuts etc, and the Electric
company say that they're not responsible for any damage caused. At over £70
a throw, buying new DG834GT's is getting to be an expensive hobby.

So I'm thinking of investing in a UPS once the new router has arrived. I
don't really know what I'm looking for in a UPS as the only ones I've seen
are the huge ones at work that sit in the bottom of the racks. Ideally I'd
like something smaller and less obtrusive as it has to go in the living room
at home. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks

Jon
