How do you know which one is the master?

Hi Arthur and Rocky

This is Windows Network and why you don't use it for serious networking; you
never know when it doesn't work and why not.

However, sometimes the network will "settle" after 10 to 15 minutes and all
machines will be visible. Also, it has to do with which machine is the
master in the network.

If you need a simple but reliable alternative, hook up a cheap/old machine
with 32 MB ram and Linux and Samba and use that as a file server.
An example is NASLite where one floppy will do:

I have this problem as well. We've got 6 machines here and some can push
onto other machines. Some can pull from. I can't figure it out either. But
we have some mixed OSes - XP Home, XP Pro, W2K. What are you running? All
the same?

I have four boxes on my home network. All of them were set up in a
workgroup, but for some reason my main box cannot see two of the machines,
and those two machines cannot see the other two machines. They all have the
same workgroup name and they all have a user called Arthur with the same
password.

Would it perhaps work if I removed the workgroup from all four boxes, or
simply changed its name, or anything else. I really need to copy about 30 GB
to one of the machines that I cannot see yet.

TIA,
Arthur
