That's some speed gain! I use Sophos AV - utterly, boringly reliable and non-intrusive. Also ZA Pro. I've never had a problem recommending them, mostly on the basis that they're not Norton, but I do have to say that with the AV uninstalled, my pc was absolutely flying... It was like I had another processor in it. But many would say you get what you deserve for using McAfee, and that your 80 bucks was wasted the day you spent it. I'd have to agree, since I've heard similar stories for years. I hope you succeed in recovering control of your PC. Then get something else - almost anything else! I've had nothing but trouble since I did. It upgrades VirusScan, SpamKiller and Security Centre. Spam Killer is fine, but Security Centre and VirusScan conspire to stop your pc working. I spent a good hours yesterday being unable to download email or use the internet. I suppose in a way that makes it more secure, and less likely to get infected, but if I wanted to stay offline, I'd just unplug the network cable. The problem initially started a couple of weeks ago, when I foolishly said yes to the upgrade. It virtually killed my pc, and I tried to reinstall VirusScan, this made it work a bit, it was almost usable. Then I decided to get rid of it all, uninstalled it, defragged etc, then rebooted. I downloaded the previous version of virus scan (10) but it insists on installing the new version of security centre, which doesn't recognise version 10 of virusscan, and then doesn't allow it to run.So I've got anti virus software that doesn't run. Obviously, that's not ideal, so instead of the upgrade I did last time, yesterday I uninstalled, and reinstalled the NEW version of everything from McAfee.com. Now nothing works. The real pain is that I only renewed my subscriptionin October, so if I go to a different AV company, I've wasted $80.
