Thank you very much Dan. It sounds good and I'll check it out. Hi Fred, I use Camtasia, and I like it a lot. It does what you're asking for, but I don't believe it can take input to redirect the video. It does give you fairly good editing capability, and you could insert a question and answer spot in between sections. A very good feature is that you can create a table of contents, which a user can use to move to a specific place in the video. Perhaps that could supplant the user input you are thinking of. You can and should create your video in small pieces, which are then pulled together to make one video. When you do this, redoing one part and pulling the parts together again isn't too hard. However, as this has to do with recording video, audio, editing, splicing, etc., there is a learning curve you'll need to go through. I've had many people use the videos I've prepared in place of help files, and everyone has liked them. You can set it up to view in a browser window, or you can set it up for use with an executable. I use the browser window for easier compatibility with the software on my user's PC's. I believe that Camtasia costs $300 (including a free copy of SnagIt). It's nearest competitor (Adobe Captivate) is $400. When I was researching these were the top two programs available. With all the help file avoidance I've done and from hearing users say they like it I'm satisfied with the price. There is a book written about it, "Camtasia Studio 3: The Definitive Guide", which you should get. Good Luck! Can anyone recommend a program for recording a tour of an app? The program that I've been working on for too many years (and that I learned Access to write) is nearing completion. It is aimed at people whose background is steam fitting (think plumbing with higher temperatures and pressures). They don't have much computer expertise. We'd like to prepare tours of the program with voice-over's, pointing, and special captions. This should accept inputs similar to the program's so the user can guide the tour. My partner (a steam fitter) will be preparing the tours so we'd like it to be easy to use and to redo a part of a tour. Ideally, the recording program would produce an exe file so it can be run without an installation procedure. Finally, we'd like it to be cheap. Any ideas? _______________________________________________ dba-Tech mailing list dba-Tech at databaseadvisors.com http://databaseadvisors.com/mailman/listinfo/dba-tech Website: http://www.databaseadvisors.com _______________________________________________ dba-Tech mailing list dba-Tech at databaseadvisors.com http://databaseadvisors.com/mailman/listinfo/dba-tech Website: http://www.databaseadvisors.com
