John, You might want read the article in this link regarding AMD Quad core chips: http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1558,2228878,00.asp?kc=ETRSS02129TX1K0000532 ----- Original Message ---- From: jwcolby <jwcolby at colbyconsulting.com> To: Discussion of Hardware and Software issues <dba-tech at databaseadvisors.com> Sent: Thursday, December 6, 2007 8:17:16 AM Subject: Re: [dba-Tech] Available Free x2 core Tina, I THINK I want to give it away. I purchased a new AMD quad core processor. I only have two motherboards that use the AMD AM2 cores to start with so this chip is currently sitting there. Even if I purchase a new motherboard I would almost certainly move to another CPU. For my use I need all the cores I can get - lots of server type of stuff, so I would probably go with a quad Intel or maaaaybe a dual socket server motherboard. However I was having an issue with the machine with the new quad core "locking up". It does appears to have gone away however, I was also playing with memory and stuff and since resetting my bios to the defaults it is not locking up any more. So... I want to wait a week or two and if the motherboard does not lock up any more then yea, it is available. I'll let you know. John W. If so, and if no one else has already spoken for it, I would be delighted to have it. Tina jwcolby wrote: > If anyone wants one, I have an X2 core that I will give away.
