[dba-Tech] windows vista: just say no?

Hi Peter

OK, if he did the test and wrote the article to show if MS is trying to make a fool of you, he proved it, and the article served the purpose very well. It should scare any non-techie to death.

Sorry if I misunderstood the article at first sight.

Gustav,

LOL, Microsoft says
<http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/buyorupgrade/default.mspx>
"Moving to Windows Vista just got easier. Whether you plan to purchase a
new PC or upgrade the one that you currently own, we've got the
information you need to make it a smooth transition". Perhaps it's
definitionally stupid to believe such statements from Microsoft, whose
Upgrade Advisor told him Vista would run on his machine, and _not_ that
it would take him several working days to make it work. The article is
on the Beeb's _business page_, where non-techies look for evidence on
how new stuff works. The writer followed MS's advice, and his article
provides good evidence that, in fact, such MS claims ought to be tested
before being accepted. Independence from advertisers is such a Good Thing.

And the 64 MB graphics card? The garbage can is waiting.

>> As I always tell: leave that old hardware as is. Buy a new machine that can handle your present needs. And keep the old for a spare, for something else (like a Linux server where it would scream), or give it to charity. Now this stupido bought new hardware and a bunch of troubles and wasn't even happy.
