[dba-Tech] Spanning drives

Hi all
 
I've bought myself a "Hard Drive Encloasure" (according to the manual
anyway!) with a RAID card in it, and installed two 500gb drives. According
to the box, I can span the drives to make one 1TB drive, but I can't work
out how to do it...
 
It's got 3 settings for the RAID jumper:
 
1 - JBOD (Spanning)
2 - RAID 0 (Striping)
3 - Disabled
 
I've set it to span the drives, and I've got it to display in Drive
Management as one drive with two disks in it, but they still appear as two
separate drives in Explorer... I was wondering what I'd missed... I was
expecting them to appear as one big drive. I know its possible, because
that's how all the servers are set up at work. Admittedly they use RAID 5
rather than some dodgy card like this, but even so.
 
Has anyone got any ideas?
