Try opening it in OpenOffice, the free Office productivity suite
(http://openoffice.org). It maybe able to open the corrupt file. I
know it has helped me in the past.

If you don't want to download and install it, feel free to send me the
doc, I'll see if I can open it in OOo and send you back a good file,
if I can get it.
